Housed in an extremely imposing Victorian-style building, the Langham Hotel dates from 1865 and was Europe’s first Grand Hotel. It was completely restored and reopened in 1991, after being closed for fifty-one years. Throughout its history it has played host to royalty, foreign dignitaries and celebrities. The large, grand lobby features high ceilings and marble floors and pillars. The 386 medium sized guestrooms have been decorated to a high standard and are kept in exceptional condition. The style of décor is predominantly French provincial with relaxing pastel colour schemes, complimented by American red oak furniture and fittings. The marbled bathrooms are also in exceptional condition.
The hub of the hotel and a delightfully elegant restaurant, the "Palm Court" features a glass canopy with a sophisticated lighting system and is a great choice for intimate private functions. It serves a classically French menu with a contemporary twist, together with traditional British favourites. Traditional afternoon tea is also available with a selection of delectable finger sandwiches, French pastries and scones served with clotted cream and jam. And for those theatre lovers, a pre theatre dinner menu is available for the perfect start to an evening of entertainment. Meanwhile, “Artesian” is the deeply glamorous new bar, designed by David Collins Studio, with brilliant interiors that combine a whiff of exotic Orientalism, the romance of new nostalgia and some very sexy, contemporary touches. Named after the 360ft deep artesian well under the property, it offers a fantastic list of cocktails and specialises in rum, with exclusive new rum cocktails.
